Loading the neurons.

Orange cells fired more than usual. Hollow squares are the cells the price drove, solid squares are the voters. Drag to turn it, click a cell to see its wiring.

The mouse, reacting to what its brain decides.

How it reacted

Every price the mouse heard, newest first. Pick one to see how all 1,627 neurons fired while the mouse listened to it, compared with their usual rate. The bars are its voters' spikes each second; the dashed line is their usual rate.

Chance alone moves about 135 neurons a fifth up and 135 a fifth down in any quiet minute. Driving cells does far more: most of the network goes quieter, because its inhibitory connections outweigh the excitatory ones.
